The beginning:

1980

"First of all the temperatures of the engine were completely wrong, much too high. It was'nt pleasant to drive the engine; below 4000 rev's nothing special happened. Just waiting and waiting and no power at all- and then suddenly at 7500 rev's the hell broke lose". These are happy remembrings of Hannu Mikkola.

1981

Starting at well selected world championship courses, mainly in Europe The Audi Quattros reached three victories. One of them was the first female victory in the rally sport history.
1982

It wasn't the most succesfull year of Hannu Mikkola, but Audi is learning and profing their improvements by three victories of Michelle Mouton, the female driver. At the end of the season Audi is champion in the overall car make championship. And the Audi Quattro will be even faster in the near future.

1983

The start of a new car. The short version of the Audi Quattro. Even the street version of this model with shortened wheelbase was spectaculair. Not only the price of 200.000 DM but also the power. A 300 horsepower engine with a top speed of more then 250 km/h. For the motorsport versions this was even the start, it would become much and much more power.

1984 Double world championship. This year the Audi Quattro (the short version) has been unbeatable. Many victories were reached. Walter Röhrl was one of the drivers who could make this possible. The horse power reached the spectacular number of 400. Undependent test engineers measured for the Audi Quattro Sport version accellerations of less then 3 seconds for reaching a speed from 0-100 km/h. These specs are close to formula 1.

1985 It was not one of the best years. It was getting hard for Audi to reach the quality of the competition. Peugeot had its new 205 Turbo rally car, which made many victories. Audi only had one victory, San Remo, but they only reached this by the new evolution of the shortened Quattro. Namely the S1, with wings on the front and on the side and the back, everywhere.
